President Joe Biden faced increased criticism last week when a botched troop withdrawal from Afghanistan sparked a terrorist attack that left 13 U.S. service members dead near the Kabul airport.
Although he met with some of the grieving parents during a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, some of them said the experience left them even more outraged.
“I know my face is etched into your brain”
According to Fox News, the mother of Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui was among Biden’s most vocal critics.
In a social media post, Shana Chappell asserted: “President Biden, this message is for you. I know my face is etched into your brain.”
She went on to complain that the president interrupted her during the ceremony to bring up his son Beau, who died of brain cancer after serving in the military during which time he had been stationed in Iraq.
“This isn’t about you so don’t make it about you!” Chappell added.
She claimed that Biden told her he knew how she felt, which led to a furious response.
“I watched you disrespect us all”
“I let you know that you don’t know how I feel and you do not have the right to tell me you know how I feel!” Chappell’s post continued. “You then rolled your f***ing eyes in your head like you were annoyed with me and I let you know that the only reason I was talking to you was out of respect for my son.”
Furthermore, Chappell and other Gold Star parents took issue with how Biden appeared to check his watch multiple times during the ceremony.
“By the way, as my son and the rest of our fallen Heroes were being taken off the plane yesterday, I watched you disrespect us all 5 different times by checking your watch,” she insisted.
Mark Schmitz and Darin Hoover, the fathers of two other fallen Marines, offered similar opprobrium during an interview with Fox News Channel personality Sean Hannity.
“That didn’t happen just once,” Hoover said. “It happened on every single one that came out of that airplane. It happened on every single one of them. They would release the salute, and he would look down at his watch on every last one, all 13, he looked down at his watch.”
