In recognition of America’s new woke religion, the Biden administration has started flying Black Lives Matter and LGBT flags at American embassies.
Republicans are making an effort to ban this brazenly ideological practice with a new “stars and stripes” bill introduced by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY).
Ban ideological flags
The New York Republican slammed Biden for giving controversial political groups the government’s sanction and called his flag policies “an insult to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our flag and our nation.”
“It is inappropriate for President Biden and Secretary Blinken to authorize and encourage the display of inherently political flags that are in no way affiliated with the U.S. Government over American embassies overseas,” she said.
In May, Biden gave the go-ahead for embassies to fly the Black Lives Matter flag on the anniversary of George Floyd’s death, placing it on an equal footing with the American flag, even though BLM is a political organization founded by self-avowed Marxists, not (officially at least) part of the government.
That move followed Secretary of State Tony Blinken giving “blanket authorization” to fly the “Pride” flag championed by LGBT advocacy groups.
Incredibly, the U.S. Embassy in the Vatican City, of all places, has displayed an LGBT flag to mark the start of the left’s liturgical season of Pride Month.
Biden embraces woke imperialism
The flag policies represent the Biden administration’s unabashed advocacy of the identity politics that has replaced American national identity among leftists seeking revolution.
In a memo, the State Department called BLM a “constellation of ideas” rather than a political organization, in echoes of Biden’s “antifa is an idea” remark, despite BLM’s controversial support of policies like defunding police and its significant role in deadly riots last summer.
President Trump was opposed to the display of ideological flags and ordered the embassy in South Korea to take down a Black Lives Matter banner last June.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who was recently promoted to chair the House GOP conference, is also backing the “stars and stripes” bill, saying, “Our beautiful American flag should fly over our U.S. embassies around the world — not the flag of a political organization founded by Marxists.”
In practice, the bill has little chance of passing in the Democratic-controlled House, but it’s a step in the right direction. Radical sloganeering has no place on government property.
