GOP candidate defeats two-term Democratic congresswoman in Iowa

Iowa conservatives had reason to celebrate this week when Republican House nominee Zach Nunn defeated Democratic Rep. Cindy Axne in the state’s 3rd Congressional District.

Fox News reported that Nunn, who is currently a state senator, defeated Axne by just over half of a percentage point. Axne served two terms after being elected to the seat in 2018.

Nunn spoke of need to control inflation and improve border security

According to Breitbart, Nunn used his victory speech to thank the voters and pledged to represent them in the nation’s capital.

“From Day 1, we’ve been a grassroots team of Iowans from all over the district ready to bring our Iowa values to D.C. We’re humbled and honored to have won our mission and are ready to bring change to our country,” he declared.

“We didn’t get into this race to win, we got into this race to serve – and after hearing directly from Iowans the last few months, it’s clear we need to hit the ground running,” Nunn added

The newly elected Republican congressman also reviewed what he said were his “top priorities.” These included addressing inflation by reigning in excessive government spending, something Nunn says will help “get our country back on track.”

Nunn then went on to speak of the need to secure America’s southern border as well as strengthen national security.

“It’s clear that Iowans have had enough of divisive, corrupt, and power-grabbing politicians – with our win, we’re looking forward to serving Iowans and continuing to put service over self,” he explained.

Leading Republicans praise Nunn

Meanwhile, Republican figures took to social media and expressed words of praise for Nunn following his upset victory.

Florida Rep. Mike Waltz touted Nunn’s status as a fellow combat veteran while calling him a “great servant leader who will get the job done in Washington.”
