Democrats in Washington are demanding that President Donald Trump leave office in the wake of a riot by his supporters on Capitol Hill that resulted in five deaths — and now, at least one Republican is joining them.
The Daily Caller reported Thursday that U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) has called for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office on the grounds that he’s “unwell” and “unfit” to serve as commander-in-chief.
“End this nightmare”
In a video posted to Twitter, Kinzinger alleged that the president had contributed to the unrest seen at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday through his use of inflammatory rhetoric.
“Sadly, yesterday it became evident that not only has the president abdicated his duty to protect the American people and the people’s house, he invoked and inflamed passions that only gave fuel to the insurrection that we saw,” the congressman said of Trump, according to the Daily Caller.
“When pressed to move and denounce the violence he barely did so,” Kinzinger added. “It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and end this nightmare.”
“The president caused this”
The Illinois lawmaker plainly called on Vice President Mike Pence “and members of the Cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people, and that we have a sane captain of the ship.”
“Here’s the truth: the president caused this,” Kinzinger insisted in his video, as the Daily Caller reported. “The president is unfit, and the president is unwell. The president must now relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily.” Take a look:

Dems push impeachment – again
Meanwhile, Democrats announced Thursday that they are planning to begin impeachment proceedings against the president in the wake of the violence at the Capitol.
“Yesterday, the president of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told reporters, according to The Hill. “The gleeful desecration of the U.S. Capitol, which is the temple of our American democracy, and the violence targeting Congress are horrors that will forever stain our nation’s history — instigated by the president.”
The Hill also reports that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) helped to draw up two articles of impeachment, with the latter focusing on the Capitol riot. The event was characterized as “an attempted coup against our country” orchestrated by President Trump.
“Donald Trump remains the single greatest threat to our democracy,” Omar remarked Thursday, according to The Hill. “Every day that he remains in the office of the presidency — overseeing the United States military and nuclear arsenal — is a day the safety of the American people and the world are threatened.”
