President Joe Biden continues to defend his administration’s decisions even in the aftermath of a chaotic U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan that left thousands of Americans effectively trapped in that country.
Now, a group of Republican lawmakers is calling on the president to resign as a result of his actions.
“Biden has lost complete and total confidence”
According to Breitbart, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and 13 other House Republicans released a letter on Tuesday in which they defended the demand.
“President Joseph R. Biden has abdicated his responsibilities and duties entrusted to him as President of the United States,” Donalds wrote. “This blatant abdication of his office is grounds for President Biden to resign immediately.”
The Florida Republican went on to argue that it “has become clear that President Biden has lost complete and total confidence of the American people through his haphazard decision to withdraw from Afghanistan.”
His statement reference the “botched withdrawal” from Afghanistan as an event that “is currently threatening the lives of our servicemen and women, the stability in the region, and our integrity on the global stage.”
Donalds held Biden “directly responsible” for dispatching troops “with a coherent, strategically intelligent, and sound operation,” which he has failed to do.
“Joe Biden deserves to be impeached”
The public remarks concluded with his acknowledgment that reaching the point of calling for the president’s resignation is something that “weighs heavy” on his heart.
Nevertheless, he insisted that Biden’s ouster “will be necessary” in order for Americans around the world to remain safe.
Of course, Donalds and the 13 others who signed his letter are not the only Republicans who want to see Biden removed from the White House.
“If we leave any Americans behind—if we leave thousands of those Afghans who fought along our side behind bravely—Joe Biden deserves to be impeached for a higher crime and misdemeanor of dereliction of duty,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in a Fox News Channel interview on Friday.
He echoed the sentiments of a growing number of Biden critics in opining that if “we leave one American behind” or “don’t get all those Afghans who stepped up to the plate to help us out then Joe Biden … has committed a high crime and misdemeanor under the Constitution and should be impeached.”
