House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has found herself in a difficult position.
House Republicans are pushing Pelosi to launch a congressional investigation into whether the COVID-19 pandemic originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China, Breitbart reported.
Over 200 House Republicans signed on to the letter requesting a probe into the Wuhan lab.
“There is mounting evidence the pandemic started in a Chinese lab, and the [Chinese Communist Party (CCP)] covered it up,” they wrote. “If that is the case, the CCP is responsible for the deaths of almost 600,000 Americans and millions more worldwide.”
Americans deserve answers
Accordingly, the Republicans called on House Democrats to “abandon their partisan agenda and join House Republicans’ investigation into the origins of COVID-19.”
The lawmakers argued that “every American family that lost someone deserves answers about the origin” of the coronavirus pandemic, and they called House Democrats’ refusal to seek those answers “an affront” to those families.
The lawmakers said the “mounting evidence” of a lab origin includes the recent revelation that three WIV employees in China may have contracted the coronavirus in November of 2019, a month before any COVID-19 cases were reported by the CCP.
Three of those WIV researchers became so ill that they had to be hospitalized, however it’s still uncertain whether they were hospitalized because they had contracted the coronavirus.
The official position of the World Health Organization (WHO) is that the lab-origin hypothesis is “extremely unlikely,” and that it is much more likely that the coronavirus was transmitted to humans by an animal. This theory, however, has been called into question because of the lack of evidence for it and the growing evidence for the lab leak theory.
This week, the Senate unanimously passed a GOP-led bill authorizing an investigation into the origin of the coronavirus.
The House Judiciary and Oversight Committee has also launched a probe into the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Wuhan lab grant, to determine whether American taxpayer money was used “to develop COVID-19, conduct gain of function research, or assist in any sort of cover-up.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci has claimed the NIH did fund research at the Wuhan lab, but not “gain of function” research.
