GOP Sen. Bill Hagerty calls border immigration situation ‘a crisis beyond measure’

Statistics from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) show that the Biden administration has long presided over a flood of illegal migration across America’s southern border.

However, one Republican lawmaker recently warned that the situation is about to get immeasurably worse.

“A crisis beyond measure”

“It is a crisis beyond measure,” Tennessee Sen. Bill Hagerty (R) was quoted as saying to Fox News Digital following a visit to the border in Texas.

“The border agents are so overwhelmed right now that they are spending more time processing than they are doing their job defending the border,” Hagerty explained.

“That’s the goal of the cartels, to get the Border Patrol distracted and overwhelmed so they can move the high value cargo — the fentanyl, the methamphetamine, the ‘high value’ people, meaning those who are on the terror watch list, and things of that nature who would otherwise suffer terrible consequences if they’re caught.”

The Tennessee Republican mentioned the high toll that drug overdoses have taken on his state, declaring, “It’s not just what’s happening at our border, it’s happening all across America.”

“Tidal wave of people”

Hagerty was particularly concerned about the end of a Trump-era policy called Title 42, which allows illegal migrants to be swiftly deported.

Fox News has reported that the Biden administration is close to revoking the policy, a move which has resulted in criticism from Democratic Sens. Mark Kelly (AZ), and Joe Manchin (WV).

Hagerty recalled being present with Border Patrol when they were informed that Title 42 will be abolished, and he said that the negative impact on their morale was immediately apparent.

“You could have felt the weight of the cloud of depression falling over the room. There was just silence, dejection,” he said.

“The last tool they had at their disposal to turn these people back is going to be taken away,” Hagerty continued. “It’s as if the Biden administration sent out an invitation to come crash the border on May 23.”

“Now they have to look forward to a massive tidal wave of people coming across that border they won’t be able to handle,” he added.
