GOP Senator Bill Cassidy just showed his true colors.
The Washington Examiner reports:
Earlier in the month, DeSantis issued an executive order forbidding school districts throughout the Sunshine State from violating “constitutional freedoms,” infringing on parental rights, and ignoring “disabilities or health conditions” that would preclude a student from wearing a mask. The directive, which mainly served to block institutions from requiring face coverings, was in response to a mask mandate issued by Broward County Public Schools.
“I’m a conservative,” Cassidy, a physician, said on a segment of CNN‘s State of the Union. “I think you govern best when you govern closest to the people being governed and if a local community … their ICU is full … then the local officials should be listened to. That is a conservative principle.”
I’m sick of these RINO wimps hiding behind small government as a justification for allowing regular Americans to be crushed by unelected tyrants.
He’s acting like people actually get a vote on whether they’ll be shut down or locked down, when actually it’s just some person with a major in public health deciding that we’ll have to obliterate small businesses again because the word variant sounds scary.
I’m pretty sure his next move after getting primaried is to go on a mainstream media tour and moan about how the GOP is embracing the cancel culture now and is so much changed since him and John McCain were running things.
And just to clarify, allowing the government (no matter how local) to shut down businesses, churches and public events is not conservative. It’s cowardly.
