President Joe Biden is endangering the lives and property of Americans living on the frontier of the southern border crisis, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said this week, as he officially declared the immigration surge an emergency in his state.
According to the New York Post, the Republican governor ordered a disaster declaration in 34 counties where Biden’s far-left immigration policies have left Texans exposed to drugs and crime.
Texas declares emergency
Abbott said in a statement that Biden’s negligence is sowing chaos and that Texas has had to pick up the slack to keep residents near the border safe.
“Texas continues to step up to confront the border crisis in the federal government’s absence, but more must be done,” he said, according to the New York Post. The governor added that Biden is encouraging “dangerous gangs and cartels, human traffickers, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to pour into our communities.”
In his disaster order, Abbott noted that authorities at the border have made 1,300 criminal arrests, apprehended 35,000 illegal aliens, and seized over 10,000 pounds of drugs and some 100 guns in the last few months, including millions of lethal doses of fentanyl, which has devastated communities nationwide, the Post reported.
Residents are suffering property damage from the surge in migrants as well, the governor said. His declaration calls on the state to marshal all its resources to respond to crime at the border, and discontinues state licenses for facilities being used to house migrant children.
“By declaring a state of disaster in these counties, Texas will have more resources and strategies at our disposal to protect landowners and enforce all federal and state laws to combat criminal activities stemming from the border crisis,” Abbott said, according to local ABC affiliate KVUE.
White House responds
The White House responded to Abbott’s order by accusing the governor of cruelty to child migrants. Rob Law, of the immigration restriction group Center for Immigration Studies, called it a typical diversionary tactic.
“It’s another example of [Biden’s agencies] propping up children as the convenient deflection pawn in the longer game, which is unlimited immigration to lower the wages of Americans,” he said, according to Breitbart.
As immigration reaches 20-year highs, Biden’s demonstrated indifference to border security continued this week when he canceled former President Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, widely credited with helping to control America’s intractable illegal immigration problem.
The White House called it a “poor use of resources,” according to the Associated Press.
Trump responded by calling Biden the “first American President who doesn’t want America to be a nation at all.”
