Graham predicts that ‘majority of the Senate would reject’ bill banning ‘assault weapons’

President Joe Biden has made it clear since the early days of the 2020 presidential election that he intends to impose new restrictions on the rights of Americans to own certain so-called assault rifles.

While measures to ban firearms and extended ammunition magazines might squeak through a Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has predicted that such proposals would be defeated in his chamber on the strength of opposition on both sides of the aisle.

“I don’t want to wait another minute”

In the wake of a recent mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado, that left 10 victims dead, the president issued a new statement regarding the perceived need for new gun control laws.

“I don’t want to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take commonsense steps that will save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act,” Biden said, according to a White House transcript.

He went on to declare that legislators “can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again.”

Of course, GOP critics including Graham do not share his belief that passing any type of major regulation would be a sure thing in the Senate.

In an interview this week, the South Carolina Republican told Washington Examiner reporter Hugo Gurdon that he looks forward to the chance to vote on a proposed ban on assault weapons.

“I chose to own it”

“I own an AR-15,” Graham said, as the Examiner reported. “Now, why do I own it? Because I have the right to own it, and I chose to own it.”

The senator said he had sentimental reasons for owning his personal weapon, but indicated more broadly that there are other compelling reasons to purchase such a rifle.

“If there’s a breakdown of law and order, there’s a natural disaster, and the gangs are roaming through a neighborhood, what house do they go to the last?” he asked. “The one without a gun, the one with a double-barrel shotgun, or the one with the AR-15?”

As for the outcome of an assault weapons ban bill in the upper chamber, Graham made a “prediction” that “a majority of the Senate would reject that vote,” according to the Examiner.

Although the Senate is evenly split between the two parties, Graham said that red-state Democrats “cannot vote” for such a measure. Pro-gun Americans can only hope that his prediction is correct.

  1. A real Liberal conundrum! “Gun control defined: The Democrats want us to believe that people who are willing to ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder will MAGICALLY obey a law which prohibits them from owning a firearm”.

  2. This has been discussed in the past. The general agreement is that “When guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns.” Enough said!

  4. All the senate had better reject the democrats gun bill if they know just what is good for them and have a chance to keep their office in our government.

    1. Our rights to own guns for hunting colecting or for OUR SAFETY OF FAMILY AND PROPERTY!!!!!! uninfringed……Guns don’t kill people people kill people…..you think gangs will give you their guns ha ha…why did hunter have a gun? Cuz he lied on application….but nothing happening to him even though his girlfriend hid it.. And luckily someone found it and turned it in. So a child did not find it.plus secret service trying to get evidence to hide it? Unbelievable!!!!!!

  5. Next time there’s a car crash that kills a few people will Slow Joe ban cars? A tree fell on my house (for real, busted the house badly) so where is the call for banning trees? Medical mistakes kill more people than guns every year, so where’s the ban on doctors? Hey, here’s a thought! Joe can officially ban the Corona virus, that’ll solve the problem!

  6. The Democrats are afraid that the people will overthrow their government when they (the Democrats) become too radical. This is why they want strict gun control laws. This is following Jeffersons writings in the constitution.

  7. I myself I think that there are too many laws in this country then need to be we need to cut back on a bunch of laws that they contribute through the years it’s time for the American people to stand up and stop all this nonsense. I myself had stood behind Trump’s pregnancy while he was commander and chief but towards the end when he was promoting this deadly vaccine among the people of the country I am blown away and at this point I have no one that I can say that they are correct or believed like this Graham and and Ted Cruz I believe them as far as I can throw them at my age I can’t throw them too far right now so forgive me if I’m not excited about this. But you better believe the only way they will get my gun is from my dead cold hands

  8. FBI Stats Show Knives Kill Far More People Than Rifles In America – It’s Not Even Close
Shall we band knives and lets talk about cars…. Death toll over the top.
Biden is a old fool and how he gets these people to drink the cool aid is beyond me.
