Great aunt is identified as a suspect in the killing of an 8-year-old boy

Police in Denver, Colorado, have arrested an individual in connection with the death of an 8-year-old boy.

According to Fox31, the suspect has been identified as 61-year-old Susan Baffour, the boy’s great aunt.

What is known

On Friday morning, the 8-year-old boy was found dead in the 1900 block of North Ulster Street, located in Denver, Colorado.

Upon the finding of the boy’s body, the Denver Police Department (DPD) launched what was initially a death investigation. That investigation, though, was quickly upgraded to a homicide investigation, and it wasn’t long before police had a suspect in custody – Baffour.

On Friday, Baffour was placed under arrest and taken to jail. Police revealed to the press that Baffour was the boy’s great aunt. But, no other information about Baffour has been provided.

Police have also not released either the identity of the boy or the manner of the boy’s death. Both pieces of information are expected to be released in the coming days by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

A hint about what may have happened, though, has been provided by the Denver Police Department. The hint is that Baffour is being held in jail on the charges of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of a person 12 years or younger. As for what form the child abuse took, though, we just don’t yet know.

“Hard to believe”

Fox31 interviewed members of the local community following the news of the boy’s death. The overall reaction was one of sadness and incredulity, with many in disbelief that such a horrific crime could happen so nearby.

“It’s so hard to believe and hard to accept,” said Jo Thomas, one of the members of the local community. You wonder why people have to treat our innocent children like this. I mean, they didn’t ask to be here with us. I don’t understand what’s happening to this world? I really don’t.”

Jakob Barnhart, another member of the community, similarly reacted with shock.

Barnard said, “hearing something like that, my condolences definitely go out to their family you know, hearing about something like this.”

“It’s very sad,” Barnard added.
