Grenell accuses Biden of ‘manipulating intelligence’ ahead of Trump’s inauguration: Report

Former Vice President Joe Biden claims to have been largely ignorant of what increasingly appears to have been a coordinated effort by late Obama-era officials to spy on and undermine the incoming Trump administration — but one former Trump admin official is disputing the Democrat’s account.

According to the Washington Examiner, former acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Richard Grennell accused Biden on Thursday of “manipulating intelligence” in the final days of Barack Obama’s presidency, ostensibly to hurt now-President Donald Trump.

Weaponizing intelligence

Grenell’s allegation came during an appearance by the former spy chief on Newsmax TV, the Examiner reported. There, Grenell broke down what was learned from “classified information that was declassified,” including unsealed emails between intelligence officials.

“This time period between Election Day and Inauguration Day, when we are supposed to be having a peaceful transition of power, we now know that the vice president of the United States, Joe Biden at the time, was — in January, just weeks before the election — looking for information, manipulating intelligence,” Grenell told Newsmax.

“Some of that…political manipulation of intelligence was leaked halfheartedly to reporters,” the ex-DNI added, lamenting that it was likely done to harm the incoming Trump administration.

“I don’t think you can come to any other conclusion other than this past administration, the Obama administration weaponized intelligence,” Grenell said.

“It needs to go through a process”

Grenell went on to chastise those on both sides of the political aisle who would seek to “weaponize, politicize intelligence.”

“Raw intelligence…they put it out there like it’s verified. Intelligence is an estimate, and it needs to go through a process of being verified,” he told Newsmax on Thursday, noting that those who ignore that sentiment should be “punished.” Grenell also expressed his agreement with President Trump’s assessment that what the Obama administration had done to his transition team amounted to “treason.”

As for Biden, Newsmax’s hosts noted the former VP’s name had been on a list — which was declassified by Grenell himself earlier this year — of those who’d called for the “unmasking” of Michael Flynn’s name in raw intelligence reports and classified transcripts, and that Biden himself claimed to not have had detailed knowledge of the probe into the former National Security adviser. “Do you buy that [Biden] didn’t know anything beyond the fact that [Flynn] was being investigated?” Grenell was asked.

“I may buy that he doesn’t remember because he seems to have a very short memory right now, but I don’t buy that he didn’t know,” the former spy chief said.
