During an interview Sunday with CNN, Vice President Kamala Harris made clear that she wants to crack down on Americans’ gun rights, Breitbart reported.
“We should have background checks. That’s just reasonable gun safety laws,” she told anchor Dana Bash on State of the Union. “We should have an assault weapons ban,” Harris continued. “Assault weapons have been designed to kill a lot of people quickly. They are weapons of war, and Congress has to account.”
Bash then asked, “But do you think it can happen?”
“It has to happen,” Harris replied.
The vice president is not just signaling the Biden administration’s intentions on executive actions regarding gun control; she’s challenging Congress to turn them into law.
“Congress has to act,” Harris said. “Because we have to codify, that’s a fancy word for make permanent, make the law, that we agree.”
Harris’ CNN interview follows an executive order from President Joe Biden earlier this month that stated the Justice Department will issue a proposed rule to stop the proliferation of “ghost guns” within 30 days. Ghost guns are guns assembled by parts rather than purchased through a firearm’s dealer already assembled.
The same order adds that the Justice Department “within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act.”
But the question is whether these executive actions will help curb shooting deaths. A look at recent mass shootings does not appear to show that either of these measures from Biden would make any tangible difference.
The act looks good to gun control advocates, while stripping the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.
Furthermore, Harris has been completely absent on the southern border and the Biden administration refuses to do what is necessary to make America’s border secure. This means cartels bringing drugs and weapons will get more illegal guns into the hands of criminals who don’t obey the laws, and certainly won’t obey Biden’s gun restrictions.
Meanwhile, law-abiding Americans face increased challenges to their God-given, constitutional right and ability to defend themselves.
