Fox News has reported that Vice President Kamala Harris’ communications director came down with COVID this week.
The network cited a statement put out by Harris press secretary Kirsten Allen explaining that Jamal Simmons tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
Statement says Harris “will follow CDC guidance”
“Jamal was in close contact to the Vice President as defined by CDC guidance. Jamal is isolating and working from home,” Allen’s statement read.
“The Vice President will follow CDC guidance for those that have been in close contact with a positive individual and will continue to consult with her physician,” it continued, adding, “The Vice President plans to continue with her public schedule.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a “close contact” is defined as someone who spent a cumulative total of 15 minutes within less than six feet of an individual confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19.
Other Democrats also test positive
Fox News noted that Simmons was not alone in contracting the disease, as a number of other high profile Democrats also did so after attending the Gridiron Dinner this past weekend.
They included fellow Biden administration members Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
Fox News quoted a statement issued by Garland’s office as reading, “Attorney General Garland this afternoon tested positive for COVID-19 through antigen tests.”
“He asked to be tested after learning that he may have been exposed to the virus,” the statement continued, adding, “At the time, he is not experiencing symptoms. The Attorney General is fully vaccinated and boosted.”
Meanwhile, the Commerce Department released a similar statement regarding Raimondo. It declared, “Today, after experiencing mild symptoms, Secretary Raimondo tested positive for COVID using an at-home antigen test.”
“She is fully-vaccinated and boosted, and she is confident that the vaccine has prevented her from experiencing more significant symptoms. She is sharing the news of her positive test out of an abundance of transparency.”
Fox News observed that former President Barack Obama tested positive for COVID last month, tweeting, “I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise.”
