Like most Democrats, Vice President Kamala Harris regularly tells Americans that they need to get vaccinated for COVID-19. However, Harris wasn’t always such a vocal vaccine proponent.
In a move that many will no doubt regard as a scandalous flip-flop, Harris originally expressed great hesitancy over the vaccines when they were being developed under former President Donald Trump.
“I’m not going to take it”
Buzzfeed reported in October of 2020 that during the vice presidential debate then-candidate Harris said “if Donald Trump tells us we should take it, I’m not going to take it.”
Rather, Harris insisted that she would only accept the vaccine on the advice of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) head, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Buzzfeed writer Salvador Hernandez noted that Harris had previously cast doubt on vaccine safety when speaking to CNN, suggesting at the time that they were developed to achieve political goals rather than in the interest of public health.
Commenters on the piece seemed largely supportive of Harris’ position, with some going farther. One reader declared, “If I was dying and Trump gave me oxygen, I would shut my eyes and walk towards the white light.”
Left was against them
In fact, Harris is far from being the only figure on the left to radically shift her position on vaccinations as soon as the presidency changed hands.
Another is MSNBC host Joy Reid, who, in a tweet on Sept. 17 last year, asked, “I mean, will anyone… anyone at all… ever fully trust the [CDC] again?”
And who on God’s earth would trust a vaccine approved by the [FDA] ??” the leftist TV news host added. “How do we get a vaccine distributed after this broken, Trumpist nonsense has infected everything? Even if Biden wins?”
Yet, less than a year later, Reid was loudly touting one of those very same vaccines, proclaiming, “Great news!! Full FDA approval of the Pfizer COVID vaccine. Great sign that the others could follow. Hopefully this will get some people off the fence.”
Left-wing author and YouTuber Brooklyn Dad Defiant has also changed his tune regarding the wisdom of getting vaccinated again COVID-19.
“I won’t be taking that s–t until long AFTER people stop dying from taking a faulty vaccine,” tweeted in the fall of 2020.
