According to Fox News, Vice President Kamala Harris has tested negative for COVID-19 after coming into contact with infected Texas Democrats, the White House said this week, although others weren’t so lucky.
The Biden administration is seeking to downplay what certainly would have been called a “super spreader” event during the Trump administration after staffers to president Joe Biden and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tested positive.
More Dems test positive
Harris had met with the Texas Democrats last week after they absconded to Washington in an effort to block an election bill in their state.
The highly-publicized escapade took an embarrassing turn after several members, now six, tested positive for COVID-19 after they had photographed themselves without masks on a private jet.
The incident undoubtedly raises uncomfortable questions for the Biden administration as it seeks to dial up pressure on unvaccinated Americans, as the six Texas Democrats have all been vaccinated, KXAN noted.
At a press briefing Monday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that Harris received a negative COVID-19 test and that her doctor’s visit at Walter Reed on Sunday was a pre-scheduled, entirely coincidental, and “routine” event. Harris is not being forced to quarantine.
“It was a visit that was scheduled for several weeks, long before the visit of the Texas legislators, a routine appointment which she had, again, scheduled several weeks ago,” Psaki said.
White House downplays
Psaki also blew off a question about the hypocrisy of Texas Democrats for not wearing masks. What’s more, the alarmist rhetoric that defined coverage of the virus under President Trump seems to have magically disappeared.
The Biden administration and the media are declining to use the term “super spreader” to describe the outbreak, with Psaki merely thanking the Texas Democrats for advocating “voting rights.”
“Vaccines are not foolproof,” she conceded Tuesday. “We know vaccines – I think these individuals have been vaccinated. That is a good sign.”
“Our message continues to be, ‘thanks for standing up for voting rights,’” Psaki added.
As the New York Post noted, Pelosi’s office said that a “fully vaccinated senior spokesperson” tested positive for the virus after contact with the Texas Democrats, and Psaki said that a White House staffer, also vaccinated, experienced “mild symptoms.” An undisclosed number of vaccinated staffers are also sick, she said.
