Calls for former Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race are continuing to mount as new evidence surfaces in support of a sexual assault allegation lodged against the former vice president.
Breitbart reported that the hashtag #DropOutBiden was “trending” on Twitter for much of the day Saturday, hours after a video from a 1993 episode of Larry King Live appeared to further corroborate the assault allegations against the Democrats’ presumptive 2020 nominee.
Allegations and accountability
According to NPR, the allegations against Biden come from one of his former Senate staffers, Tara Reade, who says the Delaware Democrat touched her inappropriately in a Capitol hallway. Both friends and family members of Reade have since come forward to corroborate the claims, NPR noted.
Those accounts were only bolstered by the release late last week of a clip from CNN’s Larry King Live. In it, a woman alleged to be Reade’s mother calls in to ask how someone could go about holding a “prominent senator” accountable for misconduct, Breitbart noted Saturday.
#BREAKING: HERE is the video from August 11,1993’s ‘Larry King Live’ described by @TheIntercept (and Tara Reade) as allegedly featuring her mother calling in and alluding to Reade’s sexual assault claims against @JoeBiden (blog here by @ScottJW) https://t.co/fCgEqBnX7n pic.twitter.com/V5FGHskv56

Time to go, Joe
Soon after the video resurfaced, the hashtag #DropOutBiden started gaining steam. Members of Biden’s coalition largely dismissed the tag as an effort by “Russian bots,” according to Breitbart, but it appeared members of both sides of the political aisle joined in on the fun.
Indeed, Breitbart reported that a Democrat insider who once served as an adviser to Hillary Clinton, Peter Daou, posted a lengthy Twitter thread explaining why Biden should withdraw immediately.
Among Daou’s reasons: “Credible rape accusations are disqualifying.”
DIFFICULT THREAD — #BIDEN SHOULD WITHDRAW
1. I respect the will of the voters.
3. Credible rape accusations are disqualifying or we have NO moral standards.

And he wasn’t the only one on the left to slam Biden over the weekend. Former staffers for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, including senior adviser Winnie Wong, also chimed in to share their displeasure with the Democrats’ choice to take on President Donald Trump, the Washington Examiner reported.
The video of Tara Reade’s late mother calling into Larry King to blow the whistle about about Tara’s sexual assault is being met with relative silence from a cadre of progressives right now and I want you all to know that I see you. We all do.

Only time will tell if their cries for accountability will be heard. But given the mainstream media’s radio silence on the issue, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
