Fans of Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” were surprised to hear that one long-time host is moving on.
Bill Hemmer, the 12-year co-host of “America’s Newsroom,” is calling it quits. But, as we’ll see, Hemmer’s fans shouldn’t be too upset.
Hemmer signs off
Friday’s was a particularly special edition of “America’s Newsroom,” as Hemmer announced that he will be moving on. He began the show with a touching message for viewers.
“I want to say this,” he said. “I think what people on the outside of Fox don’t understand about the people who work at Fox is that I consider you a friend, also.”
Hemmer then turned to his stage manager, saying: “And, Ben, I consider you a friend. And, everyone else around here on staff. And, that brings a certain unity to the process that we do every day and I think that’s really special and I consider it really important — a really important part about what we do.”
“We’re in it together in a significant way every day,” Hemmer continued. “So, [I’m] not going far.”
Right back at you Hemmer
At this point, co-host Sandra Smith jumped in.
“Can I just add to that?” she asked. “There is not a person in this building — inside or out — that you mention Bill Hemmer’s name and they don’t say, ‘That’s a great guy.’ Because he is. And, he’s a great journalist.”
It is indeed true that Hemmer is really “not going far.”
Hemmer will now be going on to host his own show on Fox called “Bill Hemmer Reports.” According to Fox, “the veteran journalist will lead all breaking news coverage in addition to hosting the straight-news program from the network’s Fox News Deck.”
“On to greater things. On to another chapter. And, it’s just that — it’s another chapter. So please come along for the ride,” Hemmer concluded on Friday. Watch the new show promo below:
