Hillary Clinton scolded on social media for tweet about EU using legislation to curb speech

Former Secretary of State and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton got major pushback on Twitter for pushing the EU to use legislation to crack down on “disinformation” and “extremism” online, Fox News reported.

“For too long, tech platforms have amplified disinformation and extremism with no accountability. The EU is poised to do something about it,” Clinton tweeted on Thursday night. “I urge our transatlantic allies to push the Digital Services Act across the finish line and bolster global democracy before it’s too late.”

Conservatives on Twitter were quick to slam Clinton for her alleged involvement in the “Russia collusion hoax” against former President Donald Trump, which is still being investigated by special counsel John Durham. Others said she was trying to “control” speech, and had a “totalitarian impulse.”

Responses

Clinton left herself wide open to criticism, as she had so many times on the campaign trail in 2008 and 2016.

“The autocrats want to think for you. No thanks,” American Greatness contributor Thaddeus McCotter replied to Clinton’s tweet.

The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis pointed out Clinton’s hypocrisy, saying, “You[sic] former campaign lawyer is under federal indictment for lying to the FBI about the Russiagate hoax that your campaign funded. Sit down.”

Conservative author Kimberly Morin pointed out Clinton’s own history of disseminating disinformation, saying, “You know all about DISINFORMATION, don’t you?”

Dems attempt to shut down speech

The proposed EU law would force the unity government to police more closely the content posted on Twitter, but it was not clear what criteria would be used to determine what constituted “disinformation” or who got to decide what qualified.

This is the problem with any attempt to crack down on free speech, and it’s why billionaire and free speech purist Elon Musk has decided to try to take over the platform.

Clinton’s tweet galvanized recent sentiment that Democrats and their media allies are simply using the term “disinformation” whenever information damages Democrats or challenges their narrative.

The Washington Times columnist and comedian Tim Young gave this translation of Clinton’s tweet: “Translated: Restrict the First Amendment so that Democrats can control the narrative without challenge.”
