Twenty-one-year-old David Hogg, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has long been a harsh critic of Donald Trump and his supporters — including famed MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
Tensions reached a peak earlier this year when Hogg announced plans to start a rival pillow company. However, it seems Hogg has now given up on those dreams.
As the Washington Examiner reported Sunday, Hogg, who rose to fame as an activist for gun control in the wake of a mass shooting at his high school in 2018, revealed in a series of tweets that he will no longer be involved in the pillow project known as “Good Pillow.”
“I could not give 100%”
“A couple weeks ago, a very spontaneous interaction over Twitter between me and William LeGate led to us trying to start a progressive pillow company,” Hogg explained, according to the Examiner. “The goal was and still is to create a great pillow that is sustainably produced in domestic unionized factories and have a percentage of those profits benefit progressive social causes.”
Hogg said the venture was “met with immediate and overwhelming support.”
“But I soon realized that given my activism, schoolwork, and family commitments, I could not give 100% to being a full time co-founder at Good Pillow,” he said. “After many discussions with William and my friends, family and mentors, I made the good faith decision to allow William to bring our vision to life without me.”
According to the Examiner, Hogg said the company will continue on without him to produce “products that people need while creating good union paying jobs and supporting social causes at the same time.”
He also said he’s “incredibly appreciative of those family and friends who reached out to support me, and am thankful for those who supported me in this vision.”
“Taking some time”
With Good Pillow off the table, Hogg says he’ll be “taking some time to focus on my studies in college and advance the gun violence prevention movement.”
It remains to be seen whether Good Pillow will ever get off the ground, but reports indicate they hope to start shipping products this summer.
Lindell, for his part, is known as a staunch conservative and supporter of former President Trump who credits God with helping him to overcome drug addiction and build a successful company. He’s also Good Pillow’s primary target, The Daily Wire notes.
In March of last year, Lindell announced that MyPillow would focus on producing face masks for frontline health care workers, FOX 9 in Minnesota reported.
