Rob Reiner, the actor and director, is yet another leftist who is blaming Republicans and, specifically, former President Donald Trump for the recent violent attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Reiner did so in a message that he posted to Twitter on Friday.
“Donald Trump has been spreading The Big Lie for 2 years,” Reiner wrote. “The violent assault on Paul Pelosi and the attempt to murder Speaker Pelosi is directly related to that Lie.”
“Donald Trump is 100% responsible for this and Jan.6,” Reiner continued. “He must be indicted and never be allowed to hold office.”
It was early on Friday that a man broke into the Pelosi home, in San Francisco, California, and proceeded to confront Paul Pelosi.
Pelosi managed to summon the police, and, when the police arrived, they found the suspect, in his underwear, wrestling with Pelosi over a hammer. The suspect ended up winning the hammer, and he proceeded to strike Pelosi with it, causing injuries that required surgery. Pelosi is, nonetheless, expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect has been arrested, and he is facing a laundry list of charges. He has been identified as 42-year-old David DePape.
It has been reported that DePape had a manifesto that contained conspiracy theories that have been described as very far to the right on the political spectrum. But, there have also been reports that DePape has been mentally ill for some time. The bottom line is that we still do not know DePape’s precise motive for attacking Pelosi.
Leftists being leftists
Despite not knowing DePape’s motive, many on the left are blaming the attack on Republicans, perhaps trying to score some points ahead of the midterm elections. Leading the way here is President Joe Biden himself.
Biden first insinuated that the attack was the Republicans’ fault not long after it happened in remarks that he made Friday. “What makes us think that one party can talk about stolen elections, COVID being a hoax – it’s all a bunch of lies – and not affect people who might not be so well balanced?” Biden asked.
Biden continued casting blame on Republicans over the weekend, saying, “You can’t condemn the violence unless you condemn those people who continue to argue the election was not real, that it’s being stolen, that all the malarkey that’s being put out there to undermine democracy. The talk has to stop. That’s the problem.”
Many Democrats have now joined Biden in blaming Republicans for the attack on Pelosi, including Reiner.
