Gosar shares controversial video again after House votes 223-207 to censure him

Staunch Trump supporter and “America First” advocate Paul Gosar, a Republican congressman from Arizona, has been stripped of his committee assignments over a controversial cartoon he shared online.

House Democrats voted to censure Gosar over the anime video, which depicts him killing fellow Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), in a 223-207 vote — only for an unchastened Gosar to post the clip again.

According to the Daily Mail, all Democrats voted “yes” on the resolution to censure Gosar, and so did two anti-Trump Republicans, Liz Cheney (WY) and Adam Kinzinger (IL).

“Historic first”

In the House chamber Wednesday, Gosar said that his staff shared the video “depicting a policy battle regarding amnesty” to connect with young voters and draw attention to the costs of Joe Biden’s open border policy.

Gosar, whose state borders Mexico, is known for his strong support of former President Donald Trump and socially conservative policies, especially on immigration. He is the 24th congressman in history to be censured.

“No matter how much the left tries to quiet me, I will continue to speak out,” Gosar said in the House chamber, according to the Daily Mail.

Later, the defiant lawmaker retweeted the video again and slammed the “kabuki theater” of his rebuke, while thanking fellow conservative hardliners such as Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) for rallying with him against the “mob” of leftist censors.

“This was an historic first to be surrounded by members in the Well of the House in solidarity against the mob of censors. Everyone knows this censure was theater,” he wrote in one tweet.

For her part, Ocasio-Cortez accused the Republican Party of tolerating “racist misogyny” and violent “nihilism” in a dramatic speech. “What I believe is unprecedented is for a member of House leadership of either party to be unable to condemn incitement of violence against a member of this body,” the progressive congresswoman said, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite AOC’s complaints, many have noted that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has never censured Democrats like Maxine Waters (D-CA) despite numerous comments Waters has made directly inciting mobs to harass people.

While Pelosi once again got her way, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has slammed the Democratic Party’s hypocrisy while warning Democratic colleagues that their censure vote could come back to bite them.

“It’s about control. It’s not about a standard that everybody lives by,” McCarthy said, according to the Daily Mail.
