Fox News reported last week that the House Oversight Committee has obtained banking records showing Hunter Biden and other members of his family received funds originating from a Chinese company.

This recently led to something of a split between President Joe Biden and his son: whereas a spokesperson for Hunter Biden has acknowledged that the records are accurate, the president says otherwise.  

"That's not true"

"That's not true," Fox News quoted Joe Biden as telling reporters Friday on the White House lawn when asked about the committee's findings.

However, Fox News cited a memo put out by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer explaining how in 2017 the Chinese-owned State Energy HK Limited wired $3 million to Robinson Walker, LLC.

Robinson Walker, LLC. in turn wired $1,065,000 to the European Energy and Infrastructure Group in Abu Dhabi, a company tied to Hunter Biden business associate James Gillar.

"After the Robinson Walker, LLC account received $3 million from State Energy HK Limited, Biden family members and their companies began receiving incremental payments over a period of approximately three months," Comer's memo states.

White House statement does not deny committee's findings

"The recipients of the money included Hallie Biden, companies associated with Hunter Biden and James Biden, and an unknown bank account identified as 'Biden,'" the memo continued.

Fox News noted that the White House later issued a statement condemning the House Oversight Committee chairman for maligning the president's deceased son earlier this month.

"After a disgusting attack lamenting that the President’s deceased son Beau was never prosecuted while he was alive, Congressman Comer has now decided to go after Beau’s widow," said White House spokesman Ian Sams was quoted as saying.

"Instead of bizarrely attacking the President’s family, perhaps House Republicans should focus on working with the President to deliver results for American families on important priorities like lowering costs and strengthening health care," Sams added.

Hunter Biden spokesman acknowledges that Chinese funds were disbursed

Interestingly, Sams did not dispute any of the allegations contained in Comer's memo. Neither did a spokesman for Hunter Biden's legal team.

"Hunter Biden, a private citizen with every right to pursue his own business endeavors, joined several business partners in seeking a joint venture with a privately-owned, legitimate energy company in China," the spokesman said according to Fox News.

"As part of that joint venture, Hunter received his portion of good faith seed funds which he shared with his uncle, James Biden, and Hallie Biden, with whom he was involved with at the time, and sharing expenses," he added.

James Biden is a younger brother of Joe Biden while Hallie Biden was the wife of Beau Biden and at one point Hunter Biden's lover.
