The images of drug use and messages about questionable foreign business dealings that were found on Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop have been a source of embarrassment for his father’s administration, though they’ll never admit it.
However, a new report suggests that some of Hunter Biden’s emails also contain troubling information that could implicate his father, President Joe Biden, Fox News reports.
On Monday, Fox cited an article published by the Daily Mail that revealed some of the emails recovered from the laptop show one of Hunter Biden’s business partners, Eric Schwerin, was working on his father’s taxes.
What’s more, Schwerin also discussed how Joe Biden and Hunter Biden were apparently paying one another’s bills during Joe Biden’s vice presidency.
Close financial ties
“Your Dad’s Delaware tax refund check came today,” Schwerin wrote in June of 2010. “I am depositing it in his account and writing a check in that amount back to you since he owes it to you. Don’t think I need to run it by him, but if you want to go ahead. If not, I will deposit tomorrow.”
The close financial ties between the Bidens could pose problems given that Hunter Biden, according to the BBC, admitted late last year that he is being investigated over alleged tax irregularities.
The Daily Mail quoted a former federal prosecutor who spoke on the condition of anonymity as saying, “Whatever transaction you’re looking at, if there’s a connection to a family member or a friend, sure the answer is yes [they would be investigated].”
Special counsel time?
Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley echoed those concerns during a Wednesday appearance on Fox & Friends and insisted that it’s for a special counsel to be appointed.
“With these disclosures, we have accounts being used to pay both Hunter and Joe Biden and money being reimbursed to Hunter Biden from an individual associated with a company called Rosemont Seneca,” Turley said.
“Now that’s a company that has been tied to payments from China and Russia,” he continued. “And so this is getting more and more serious.”
Turley then wondered “why the Justice Department hasn’t considered the appointment of a special counsel,” adding, “We know there’s a criminal investigation into the tax issues, possible money laundering.”
Turley continued, saying, “But there are also serious questions about whether the Biden family conducted an extensive influence-peddling operation involving not just Hunter but his uncle and potentially the president of the United States.”
