Hunter Biden facing potential jail sentence over child support case

An Arkansas judge has ordered Hunter Biden to appear in court in July where he could face jail time over his failure to pay child support to the mother of one of his children.

Judge Holly Lodge Meyer issued the order for the July 10 court date.

The case

Hunter Biden will be asked to explain “why he should not be held in contempt” after lawyers for Lunden Alexis Roberts, the mother of Hunter Biden’s child, argued that Hunter Biden was ignoring the judge’s May order to hand over information on his finances.

He had initially denied paternity and any memory of meeting the mother at the Mpire Club in the nation’s capital, but the judge said in January 2020 that the court “finds the results of the DNA tests indicate with near scientific certainty that the defendant is the biological father of the child in this case.”

The consequences

"In Arkansas, contempt of court is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by fines and prison time," the Epoch Times reported.

"In her order, Meyer said that she would consider 'punishment or sanctions' against Hunter Biden, including 'incarceration for civil contempt until such time as the defendant fully answers discovery for a period of up to six months' and 'incarceration for criminal contempt for a period of up to six months,'" it added.

"The case opened in 2019 and seemed resolved after a DNA test confirmed that Biden was the girl's biological father, but it was reopened after Biden requested that his monthly child support payment be reduced from the previously agreed-upon amount of $20,000. He is also contesting Roberts' desire to change his daughter's surname to Biden," Arkansas Online reported.

Too vague

"Roberts' defense team has alleged that Biden has not been forthcoming about his income in spite of the court's order to disclose everything in detail. The defense has stated that his latest responses were still too vague and is seeking civil and criminal contempt for Biden," it continued.

Hunter is also involved in an investigation by the House Oversight Committee that is being led by GOP chairman James Comer (R-KY).

The investigation includes a look into Hunter's international business deals and his use of influence during the time his father President Joe Biden was vice president.

The ongoing legal battles are part of several concerns facing Hunter over his past life issues that could once again impact his father's campaign during the 2024 election.
