Illegal immigration arrests soar in March as end to Title 42 expulsion measure looms

In numbers that reveal the startling severity of the border crisis engendered by President Joe Biden’s policies, the Daily Wire reports that U.S. immigration authorities stopped roughly 210,000 illegal border crossers in March alone, with another 11,000 trying to enter through ports of entry without proper justification, and over 80,000 released into the country’s interior.

Underscoring the fact that things are likely soon to get much worse, rather than better, the outlet noted that Bill Melugin of Fox News reported that nearly 110,000 of that tally were removed from the country via the Title 42 public health order that allows for the rapid expulsion of migrants, but which is being lifted by the administration in late May.

Worsening crisis looms

Given the alarming numbers of arrivals already making their way to the southern border, the Biden administration’s decision to lift Title 42 – with what many believe is insufficient planning for the predictable consequences thereof – may well be setting the stage for disaster, and it is not just Republicans who have argued that point.

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D) has taken Biden to task for what he believes is a crisis in the making, telling Fox News Digital last week, “[i]n this case, the administration hasn’t even prepared, and they don’t have a plan for what to expect. Forget about the unexpected part, I’m just asking for the first part of this.”

“So lifting Title 42 without a plan, without additional resources, without the money for busses or a plan for drivers and facilities to house folks, it’s going to be a crisis. It’s not a very humanitarian thing to do,” said Kelly.

The administration itself has warned that upwards of 18,000 migrants per day may begin seeking entry at the southern border upon the lifting of Title 42, a situation which former Trump administration adviser Stephen Miller says is akin to “open[ing] the floodgates on a biblical scale.”

Far-reaching disaster

Though Kelly’s criticisms of Biden come largely from his own recent experiences visiting border towns in his state, the Daily Wire noted that the effects of unfettered migration into the country are being felt far and wide.

Not a city most would associate with immigration-related woes, Portland, Maine recently announced that because of an “unprecedented” volume of arrivals from the nation’s southern border, it would be unable to submit a timely budget for the next fiscal year because the financial strain immigrants have placed on its systems.

Indeed, as the Daily Wire noted, Republicans in Congress have also pointed out that the Biden-created catastrophe stemming from open borders policies is being felt in every corner of the country, not just the towns into which migrants first arrive.

Rep. John Katko (R-NY) declared recently, “Any time in this country you hear of a drug overdose death, whether it be in Topeka, Kansas, or Syracuse, New York, my hometown, you have to understand that every single community is a border community, and every single state is a border state because the poison that’s coming across our borders.”

Enough is enough

Hoping to draw attention to the current commander in chief’s ownership of the ongoing illegal immigration nightmare that only promises to get worse in the coming months, the Center for Immigration Studies recently opined, as The Daily Wire noted, “The main driver of illegal immigration to the United States is President Biden’s immigration policies, or more specifically, his undoing of border policies implemented by Donald Trump… .”

Fortunately, according to a recent Morning Consult poll voters have a clear grasp of who is to blame, with 56% opposing the decision to lift Title 42. As such, there appears to be a real cause for optimism not just for a sizable Republican wave in the midterms so that a serious course correction on immigration can begin, but also for a sea change at the White House come 2024.
