President Donald Trump’s impeachment finally drew to a close this week when both articles of impeachment were brought up for a vote and were defeated in the Senate.
While the other Republican senators voted to acquit the president of the Democrats’ charge that he had obstructed Congress, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) infuriated Republicans and conservatives by saying Trump was guilty of abusing his office. After that “futile, pointless vote,” Fox News host Laura Ingraham says Romney “should resign.”

“Utah’s junior senator reminded us of why he couldn’t connect with most regular, working-class people,” Ingraham declared as she opened her broadcast.
“They don’t like politicians who claim to be holier-than-thou when they’re really just sticking a shiv in your back,” she continued. “If he were up for reelection this year, the people of Utah would have their own payback against him because they were defrauded by Romney.”
“For when he had to choose, he chose [Senate Minority Leader Charles] Schumer and [Sen.] Kamala [Harris] over common sense and conservatism,” Ingraham went on.
“If you’re one of Romney’s constituents in Utah, you’re out of luck. If you’re a business in need of a regulation reexamined, don’t bother calling his office. He has no power anymore.”
The Fox News host next mentioned Romney’s failed 2012 attempt to unseat President Barack Obama, complaining that “the way you repay millions of people, the millions who did vote for you in 2012, is to throw in with the very people who don’t share our goals, who hate us and, by the way, who still hate you.”
She isn’t the only one to bring up Romney’s 2012 performance: President Trump recently tweeted, “Had failed presidential candidate @MittRomney devoted the same energy and anger to defeating a faltering Barack Obama as he sanctimoniously does to me, he could have won the election.”
“You should resign”
“Mitt, you made your stand. Now you should resign,” Ingraham concluded. “You committed a fraud on the people of Utah, on the Republican Party, on the Constitution, and have thoroughly embarrassed yourself.”
As she drew to a close, Ingraham threatened to challenge Romney herself, stating, “If I have to move there to run against him in four and a half years, I will.”
Ingraham isn’t the only one who’s frustrated. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said Romney should be kicked out of the GOP caucus. “Frankly, I don’t know what the difference is between Mitt Romney and a Democrat at this point,” he said Thursday.
