Fox News host Laura Ingraham just dashed cold water on the hope that coronavirus mask requirements will be over any time soon.
Just as travelers still remove their shoes in order to board a plane nearly 20 years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Ingraham predicted on Friday that Americans may continue wearing face masks far into the future as well.
Fauci: Lockdowns, mask-wearing must continue
Ingraham’s disappointing prediction came Friday during a discussion with Stanford University professor Dr. Jay Bhattacharya about recent comments made by Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top adviser on the White House coronavirus task force, the Washington Examiner reported.
The Fox host played a clip of Fauci talking about the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and how it will be at least “several months into (next) year” that enough people will be vaccinated so that “we can start thinking seriously about the return to normality.”
In other words, the restrictive lockdowns and mask mandates that were only supposed to be temporary measures will have to continue for the foreseeable future.
Devastating costs of continued lockdowns
Bhattacharya disagreed with Fauci’s assessment, saying, “Basically, the problem with [Fauci’s] thinking is that he seems to believe that lockdowns are costless.”
“They’re not costless. They have had devastating effects on the mental and physical health of basically every American,” the doctor continued and proceeded to discuss the rather low mortality rate and high survival rate for the vast majority of Americans who contract COVID-19.
Bhattacharya further suggested that waiting several more months for most Americans to be vaccinated before lifting lockdowns and mask mandates — rather than just waiting another few weeks or so to vaccinate the most vulnerable — is akin to telling those suffering suicidal thoughts or avoiding cancer screenings to continue living in depression and fear.
Ingraham pointed out that Fauci said we could “start” to think about returning to normal in several months. “I think all bets are off for when they want to in any way approach no masks. I think we’re gonna stop wearing masks when we stop taking our shoes off at TSA,” she said.

Not the first such prediction
This is not the first time that Ingraham has made such a dire and, sadly, seemingly accurate prediction, as she tweeted virtually the same thing back in mid-October.
In response to a New York Times poll showing majority support for a nationwide mask mandate, Ingraham wrote, “I predict we will stop wearing masks when they stop making people take off their shoes at TSA.”
