Police in Israel are investigating a horrifying murder-suicide.
The suspect, 43-year-old Alexander Savenok, is believed to have stabbed his daughter to death before taking his own life, the Times of Israel reported.
The victim’s 17-year-old brother was the one who made the gruesome discovery Saturday at an apartment in Beit Shemesh owned by their mother.
The police believe the killer came to the house while his daughter, 21-year-old Liana, was alone and killed her while she slept, before taking his own life.
“I saw blood stains in the entrance to the apartment, and I understood that it could be the worst of all,” the brother told the police. “I went inside and saw both of them lifeless, each in a different room.”
The killer had been hospitalized in the past for mental illness, Yulia, his ex-wife, said. She said she was away on vacation when her daughter was killed.
Killer had drug problem
The mother had asked her son to check on his sister after she didn’t answer her phone.
The father had also invited the son to the apartment with the intent to kill him, but the son was saved by showing up late, police say.
The killer had a history of drug abuse, and the police are looking to see whether he was under the influence during his rampage.
“I know the family as a regular family that went through a divorce process,” said mayor Aliza Bloch. “I don’t know of any other background about the father, and the police didn’t mark him as a person of interest.”
“There was no one there who knew to prepare for such an incident. The neighbors were also surprised, and that is what makes it so tragic and hard,” she said.
