Ivana Trump, the businesswoman and model who was the first wife of former president Donald Trump and mother to three of his children, has died. She was 73.
Ivana Trump was found unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs Thursday at her Manhattan apartment, according to reports. Former President Trump shared the sad news on his Truth Social account.
Ivana Trump dies
He said he was “very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City.”
“She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!,” Trump added.
Ivana Trump married Donald Trump in 1977, one year after they met in New York City while she was doing modeling work. They had three children together: Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka.
Their glamorous marriage was the talk of the tabloids during the Reagan era, when Donald Trump’s Manhattan ventures made him an American icon. Their 1992 divorce, which followed an affair between Donald Trump and his second wife Marla Maples, received extensive media coverage.
While known for her elegant style, Ivana Trump was also an astute businesswoman who helped manage her ex-husband’s real estate empire. She ran the Plaza Hotel and one of Trump’s casinos and had a hand in the interior design of famous emblems of opulence like Trump Tower.
Donald’s ‘twin’ reconciled with their ex
Describing their dynamic relationship to Vanity Fair in 1988, Ivana Trump said, “Donald calls me his twin as a woman.”
Ivana Trump was born Ivana Zelníčková in communist Czechoslovakia. She developed a talent for skiing in her youth before immigrating to Canada and later, the United States.
She remained friends with Donald Trump, who she called “The Donald,” after their divorce and supported his 2016 presidential campaign. She also claimed to have a direct line to the Trump White House and said she turned down an offer from her ex-husband to serve as ambassador to the Czech Republic.
Her fourth and final marriage was to the Italian model and actor Rossano Rubicondi, who died of cancer last year. The couple had divorced but continued to date for years before parting ways.
Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr. released a statement on the heartbreaking loss of their mother, who they called “an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty and caring mother and friend.”
