Jak Knight, star of Peacock’s ‘Bust Down,’ dies at 28

Comedian Jak Knight has died at the age of only 28, Fox News reports

A representative, on behalf of Knight’s family, announced the comedian’s death this week. Knight, according to the representative, passed away on Thursday night in Los Angeles, California.

His cause of death remains unknown. The representative said that this information is not going to be released at this time.

For now, the representative said, “Knight’s loved ones ask that their privacy please be respected during this extremely difficult time.”

Remembering Knight

Knight was a comedian, an actor, and a writer. In fact, his death comes just as his career was starting to take off.

Just in March, Peacock debuted Bust Down, which Knight co-created, executive produced, and starred in. Bust Down is a comedy that is billed as “four casino employees’, in a dead-end job in middle America, attempt to find self-worth in their bad ideas.”

It’s not Knight’s first show. He also wrote shows for Netflix’s Big Mouth and ABC’s Black-ish. Big Mouth’s Netflix billing states, “teenage friends find their lives upended by the wonders and horrors of puberty.” And, Black-ish is listed as “a fun yet bold look at one man’s determination to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family.”

Before that, Knight made a name for himself with stand-up comedy, which he continued.

Social media has been flooded with tributes to Knight from friends and fans. Most expressed their astonishment at Knight’s sudden passing.

Bust Down released a social media statement on Twitter, saying:

We are devastated by the passing of Jak Knight. He was a brilliant comedian, visionary, and artist and we were all lucky to experience his greatness. Our hearts are with Jak’s family, friends, and community during this heartbreaking time.

Comedy Central put out its own statement, writing, “Jak Knight was a hysterical and honest comedian. We will miss him tremendously.”

Comedian Eric Andre expressed best the sentiment that most are feeling following the news of Knight’s passing: “Why Jak? Why did you leave us so soon just as you were beginning? We love you man. Come back.”
