Here is something that we all ought to take note of ahead of November.
Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden has openly declared that he would shut America back down if scientists recommended the move to stop the spread of the coronavirus, ABC News reports.
Biden’s comments came during a recent interview that he did on ABC’s “World News Tonight.” Anchor David Muir asked Biden what as president he would do if scientists proposed shutting the country back down.
“I would shut it down,” Biden replied. “I would listen to the scientists. I will be prepared to do whatever it takes to save lives because we cannot get the country moving until we control the virus.”
Biden then took the opportunity to take a shot at the Trump administration.
“That is the fundamental flaw of this administration’s thinking to begin with,” Biden said. “In order to keep the country running and moving and the economy growing, and people employed, you have to fix the virus, you have to deal with the virus.”
Biden’s latest remark, that he would be willing to shut America back down, comes after a promise he made the previous day to, upon becoming president, issue a nation-wide mandate requiring everyone to wear masks.
“Let’s institute a mask mandate nationwide,” Biden said. “Every single American should be wearing a mask when they are outside for the next three months at a minimum.”
President Donald Trump has, thankfully, opposed this approach, refusing to issue a nation-wide mask mandate and expressing his opposition to another American shutdown – and for good reasons.
Biden, during the ABC interview, referred to the “fundamental flaw of this administration’s thinking.” What he is missing, however, is his own fundamental flaw: the idea that the coronavirus is going to be “fixed,” which, based on how Biden was talking, means nothing short of cured.
The question Biden ought to have been asked is “what if the coronavirus is never fixed? What then?” Sure, you may or may not have saved lives – can it even be proved that lockdowns do indeed save lives? – but by the time the lockdown is lifted, there is not going to be much of a country left. Didn’t we learn that much from the last lockdown?
Biden’s approach to the coronavirus is certainly not the mindset that I want my president to have. And, based on a recent poll, many Americans would agree.
