When asked who they would like to see win their party’s nomination in 2024, multiple polls show that Republicans favor former President Donald Trump by a wide margin.
However, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has a large following as well, and this week he got a very high-profile endorsement.
Joe Rogan says DeSantis would make “a good president”
Rogan offered that assessment during an interview on Tuesday with actress and former professional mixed martial artist Gina Carano.
At one point while discussing the upcoming presidential race Carano asked Rogan, “Are you throwing out any support towards anyone or are you gonna hold off? Didn’t Elon Musk come out recently for DeSantis?”
“Yeah, I think Ron DeSantis would work as a good president,” the podcast star and fight commentator said in response, adding, “I mean, what he’s done for Florida has been admirable.”
“I feel like what we did for Florida, people gave him a lot of grief, but ultimately, he was correct,” Rogan remarked, apparently referring to DeSantis’ opposition to COVID lockdowns and vaccine mandates.
“He was correct when it comes to deaths, he was correct in terms of protecting our vulnerable populations, he was correct in terms of distribution of monoclonal antibodies,” Rogan continued.
While the host acknowledged that DeSantis “is not perfect, he’s a human being,” Rogan insisted that what the governor has “done is stand up for freedoms.”
DeSantis running neck and neck in New Hampshire
“There’s some weird gaslighting s–t that went on where people equated freedom and saying the word freedom to like right-wing bigotry and hate is so strange,” Rogan declared.
The host also gave voice to his low opinion of President Joe Biden’s performance, accusing him of being “a dead man as president.”
Rogan is far from alone in having favorable feelings about DeSantis, as a poll published last week by the University of New Hampshire found that DeSantis and Trump are both running neck and neck among GOP voters and in the Granite State.
