John Podesta to become White House clean energy advisor

Democratic Party operative and 2016 presidential campaign manager John Podesta is back in the news following an announcement on Friday that he will serve as clean energy advisor.

President hails Podesta’s “deep roots in climate and clean energy policy”

“Today, President Biden announced that John Podesta will serve as Senior Advisor to the President for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation and Ali Zaidi will be promoted to Assistant to the President and National Climate Advisor,” a White House statement read.

It added that he “will oversee implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act’s expansive clean energy and climate provisions and will chair the President’s National Climate Task Force in support of this effort.”

Meanwhile, Zaidi has been chosen to serve as National Climate Advisor as well as be vice-chair of the National Climate Task Force.

For his part, President Joe Biden praised Podesta for having “deep roots in climate and clean energy policy” along with “experience at senior levels of government.”

He argued this background means “we can truly hit the ground running to take advantage of the massive clean energy opportunity in front of us.”

Biden also made a point of touting the supposed benefits of his Inflation Reduction Act, a piece of legislation which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has said is unlikely to reduce inflation.

“The Inflation Reduction Act is the biggest step forward on clean energy and climate in history, and it paves the way for additional steps we will take to meet our clean energy and climate goals,” Biden declared.

Critics calling former Clinton campaign manager “a bagman”

However, some critics suggested that the selection of Podesta had less to do with any genuine knowledge of clean energy and was instead a product of political considerations.

They included the website Conservative Treehouse, which stated that “Podesta had nothing to do with the Obama-era clean energy initiatives or energy spending programs.”

“Bottom line, John Podesta is now being hired to divvy up the $316 billion in Green New Deal money recently authorized by congress,” it continued.

“That is what Podesta specializes in, the distribution of taxpayer money to DNC allied groups and networks in advance of the 2022 midterms. Podesta, Hillary’s fixer, is a bagman, nothing more,” the site concluded.
