‘Exasperation and dysfunction’: VP Harris’s approval rating still lower than Biden’s

A Suffolk University poll released last week gave President Joe Biden a national approval rating of just 37.8%. While the humiliating number must have been disappointing, it was still 10 points higher than where Vice President Kamala Harris is currently polling.

However, members of the public apparently aren’t the only ones who are put off by Harris, as leaks from her office suggest many of her staff members are quite unhappy. Business Insider cited a report published by CNN on Sunday that spoke of “exasperation and dysfunction” among aides to both Biden and Harris.

One manifestation of that dysfunction has come in the form of dissatisfied staffers who have apparently taken their grievances to sympathetic members of the media.

Between her staffers and the American public, Harris is shaping up to be one of the most unliked politicians in modern American history.

Blaming the media

“None of this is helpful. I don’t care if you work for Joe Biden or Kamala Harris,” an unnamed former Harris aide declared. “My advice to everyone is to stop using the media as your therapist.”

For his part, former governor of Vermont and one-time chairman of the Democratic National Committee Howard Dean argued that reporters are to blame for the discord.

“What the media has done to her office is appalling,” Dean told Business Insider. “This is pack journalism. I think these stories are all crap and you may quote me on that.”

“Abusive environment”

In June, Politico ran a story in which anonymous aides spoke of Harris’ office as being a place characterized by “low morale,” and “diminished trust.”

They alleged that Harris and her chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, have “created an insular environment where ideas are ignored or met with harsh dismissals and decisions are dragged out.”

The sources went on to contend that the vice president “refuses to take responsibility for delicate issues and blames staffers for the negative results that ensue.”

“People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment,” one Harris insider reportedly claimed.

The source added: “It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s***.”
