Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s big fundraiser this week was co-hosted by Doug Prochilo, a Hollywood producer who has a history of making demeaning and sexist insults toward women in politics, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
Prochilo also criticized Harris herself in the past, tweeting for her to “grow a pair” and calling on her to drop her presidential campaign multiple times. The Trump campaign has called on Biden to return Prochilo’s donation and condemn his statements.
Prochilo, along with his wife, Bela Bajaria, a Netflix vice president in charge of content acquisition, both contributed at least $100,000 to the Biden campaign in order to be named co-hosts of the virtual fundraiser for the Biden Victory Fund on Thursday. Tickets for the event started off at $10,000 and maxed out at $500,000 for the honor of being named an event chair, Fox News reported.
The Beacon initially reported on Thursday about Prochilo’s past tweets mocking and degrading Republican women — often with variations of the word “t**t” — as evidenced by multiple screenshots of his since-deleted Twitter account.
After the Free Beacon first published the story, the Hollywood producer changed his account settings to “protected,” then deleted the account altogether.
In 2018, Prochilo tweeted that there was a “special place in hell” for former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, who he described as an “amoral, demented t**t.” In another 2018 tweet aimed at then-future press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, Prochilo said he’d be doing a “disservice” to the public to not call her an “insane t**t.”
The Hollywood producer also took shots at several Republican women in Congress, such as Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney — calling her a “lying, ignorant t**t” — as well as Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Shelly Moore Capito (WV), and Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS), who he collectively decried as “uptight old t**ts” that were ruining the future for young women.
Most recently, Prochilo abandoned his use of the “T”-word for an attack on the first lady. In response to Melania Trump’s tweet wishing Americans a happy Fourth of July, he wrote, “Pipe down, you illegal immigrant criminal.”
Interestingly, the Free Beacon also captured screenshots of Prochilo’s past critical tweets about Harris herself. He repeatedly urged her to drop her bid for the presidency and focus on battling President Trump from her position in the Senate. “Your constant ‘issue’ tweets, ignoring the big issue — that our democracy is crumbling — is growing tiresome. Stop running for president and be a senator…” he wrote in May 2018.
The outlet noted that the Biden campaign declined to respond to their request for comment about Prochilo’s sexist comments. The Trump campaign, however, wasted little time in calling out the hypocritical double standard of the Biden camp’s silence on the matter and demanded that Prochilo’s donation be returned.
Trump campaign: Biden should return donation
“Joe Biden and the hypocrites in the Democrat Party are all about the #MeToo movement, until it’s no longer politically advantageous,” Trump campaign senior adviser Katrina Pierson said, according to the Beacon.
“The latest proof is Biden welcoming a Hollywood producer known for posting vile and demeaning sentiments against women to cohost his fundraiser,” Pierson added. “If Joe Biden really was the man of character he claims to be, he would return this donation and condemn the disgraceful comments from his supporter.”
