Kamala Harris in car crash with Secret Service

Kamala Harris got into a car crash while being driven to work by Secret Service on Monday morning.

The driver of the vice president’s SUV made an “overcorrection” and hit a curb, Secret Service said.

Harris was not injured in the incident, which caused her motorcade to stop briefly at a tunnel entrance. One of the vehicle’s tires was replaced and Harris was transferred to another car.

The incident was observed by stunned onlookers, who shared a recording of the scene on social media.

“Oh my God — it’s Kamala! It’s her, there she is — I saw her,” a witness said.

Harris’s spokeswoman said she was grateful to Secret Service for the “quick response by her USSS detail to get her to the White House safely.”

Harris shaken by incident

The vice president and the director of the Secret Service Kim Cheatle were left disturbed by the incident and the Secret Service’s confusing response to it, the Washington Post reported. The incident was initially reported as a “mechanical failure.”

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said that higher-ups were provided a more complete account of what happened in person.

“Initial radio traffic indicated this was a mechanical failure, and that was communicated to agency leadership by personnel supporting the motorcade movement,” he said. “After the protective movement was completed, leadership was verbally updated with additional pertinent facts that the vehicle struck a curb.”

A source told NBC that a stopped motorcade is a “big no-no for us,” but Guglielmi told NBC that no one will be disciplined for the incident.

“We are proud of the detail. How they handled this was exactly as they should,” he said.
