Yet another senior staffer is departing from Vice President Kamala Harris’s office even as more reports say she runs a “soul-destroying” operation and bullies those who work for her.
Senior communications advisor Herbie Ziskend said this week he is leaving to become White House deputy communications director.
The vice president’s office has lost dozens of staffers in the last few months, and numerous reports have said it is a chaotic and dysfunctional place to work.
The White House is still trying to reshuffle its communications staff after press secretary Jen Psaki left to take a position at CNN.
Failure to prepare
A Washington Post article chronicled issues Harris has had holding on to staffers for two decades. One strategist, Gil Duran, who worked for her for five months in 2013, called her the “common denominator” in her staff turnover and said she seems to be repeating destructive patterns now.
“Who are the next talented people you’re going to bring in and burn through and then have (them) pretend they’re retiring for positive reasons,” he told The Post.
One major complaint of Harris staffers is that she doesn’t read briefings that are provided to her, then reacts angrily towards staffers when she doesn’t know what she’s talking about in her press appearances because she isn’t prepared, Town Hall reported.
“It’s clear that you’re not working with somebody who is willing to do the prep and the work,” the staffer said. “With Kamala you have to put up with a constant amount of soul-destroying criticism and also her own lack of confidence. So you’re constantly sort of propping up a bully, and it’s not really clear why.”
“Teetering on the brink”
This would certainly explain some of the “word salad” speeches she has given, for which she has been mocked in the recent past.
If she is causing these types of things to happen but is blaming staffers, it’s certainly easy to see why staffers are fleeing her office by the dozen.
Town Hall said her office is “teetering on the brink” of not having any staffers.
If this is the “future” of the Democrat Party, they may be in a lot more trouble than anyone thinks.
