Kamala Harris says SCOTUS ‘is an activist court’

During a controversial speech in Philadelphia earlier this month, President Joe Biden accused Republicans of not respecting “the rule of law and the institutions” that bind the country together.

Interestingly, that allegation didn’t prevent his own vice president from going after the Supreme Court.

“This is an activist court”

According to the Daily Wire, Vice President Kamala Harris took aim at the nation’s highest judicial body during an interview with NBC host Chuck Todd this weekend, saying, “I think this is an activist court.”

In particular, Harris took issue with the Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which determined that there is no constitutionally protected right to abortion.

“We had an established right for almost half a century, which is the right of women to make decisions about their own body as an extension of what we have decided to be, the privacy rights to which we are all entitled, and this court took that constitutional right away,” Harris complained.

Harris is far from being the first high-profile Democrat to go after the Supreme Court: in 2020, then Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke at a protest outside the Supreme Court and threatened that conservative justices would “pay the price” for undermining abortion rights.

“I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price!” Fox News quoted Schumer as saying. “You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

Armed man caught outside of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home

Some critics have linked aggressive rhetoric to the escalation in harassment and threats of violence that conservatives justices have faced.

Twenty-six-year-old Nicholas John Roske stands accused of attempting to assassinate Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Roske was caught with a gun earlier this year outside of Kavanaugh’s home.

More recently, the justice was forced to flee a Washington, D.C. restaurant after an angry mob began to form outside.
