A hotly contested primary race in Arizona finally drew to a close this week with Kari Lake becoming the Republican nominee for governor.
Lake embraced former President Donald Trump
According to Fox News, Lake declared victory on Thursday evening after she managed to eke out a narrow victory over rival Taylor Robson.
“Though the results took longer than they should have, Arizonans who have been forgotten by the establishment just delivered a political earthquake,” Lake said in a statement she put out on Twitter.
“This is more than an election — it is a beautiful movement by so many people across our beautiful state to finally put Arizona First,” Lake boasted.
“Our renewed Republican Party is now coming together to fight for a brighter and more prosperous future for every Arizonan,” the gubernatorial candidate continued.
“We will stop schools from indoctrinating our children and stop government bureaucrats from shutting down our businesses and livelihoods,” she added.
Lake concluded her remarks by insisting, “Starting tonight, we fight to defeat the radical, corrupt, incompetent Democrats and put our government back into the hands of the great people of Arizona!”

Fox News noted that former President Donald Trump welcomed Lake’s win in a post on Truth Social, saying, “Kari Lake just declared WINNER of Republican Primary in Arizona. She will be a GREAT GOVERNOR!”
Trump campaigned on Lake’s behalf and invited her to speak at a rally he held in Arizona late last month. Like Trump, Lake has questioned the results of the 2020 election.
Democrats say Lake promotes “dangerous policies”
For its part, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) reacted angrily to Lake’s victory and accused the former newscaster of being an “extremist.”
“Kari Lake is a diehard MAGA extremist who has centered her campaign on far-right conspiracy theories and dangerous policies,” DGA executive director Noah Lee was quoted as saying.
“Rather than addressing the real issues Arizonans care about, Lake is focused on peddling the Big Lie and its dangerous far-right talking points, banning abortion without exceptions for rape or incest, and pushing fringe views on gun safety,” he complained.
