Karl Rove speculates that Secret Service tipped off FBI before Mar-A-Lago raid

While most Republicans are defending former President Trump over the unprecedented raid of his home, the party’s establishment has shown more deference to the FBI.

Former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove speculated in an interview defending the raid that a Secret Service agent’s tip set the whole thing off.

Rove shares Mar-A-Lago theory

The premise of Rove’s theory is that Trump broke the law, a claim that has by no means been proven.

Rove, hedging that his theory is only “personal conjecture,” suggested that an insider may have warned the DOJ that Trump’s lawyers had been misleading about his continued, allegedly illegal possession of classified records.

“[Secret Service agents] have no statutory responsibility over classified material, but they are sworn federal law officers. They’re law enforcement. And they have a responsibility to report a crime,” he told Fox News.

“Why he was holding on to these materials when he had no legal authority to do so under the Presidential Records Act is beyond me,” Rove added.

Of course, Rove is no fan of Trump, so perhaps his view should be taken with a grain of salt. In another interview, he sought to blame Trump for an improvement in the Democratic party’s standing before the midterms, saying the raid has dimmed Republican “enthusiasm” despite clear indications it has rallied the party behind Trump.

Witch hunt?

Senator Roy Blunt (MO), a bellwether of RINO opinion, has similarly said Trump “should have turned” the alleged documents, adding, “I imagine he knows that very well now as well.”

Democrats have certainly struggled to contain their excitement over the raid, which has led to speculation of Trump getting indicted.

Trump and his allies have blasted the raid as a blatant act of political persecution by Joe Biden, who is facing a popularity crisis and the prospect of a re-match with Trump in 2024.

“The Raid on my home, Mar-a-Lago, is one of the most egregious assaults on democracy in the history of our Country which is, by the way, going to places, in a very bad way, it has never seen before!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Biden claims to have had “zero” foreknowledge, despite reports his administration waived Trump’s executive privilege claims before the raid.
