Cancer has sadly just claimed another victim.
Breitbart reports that actress Kelly Preston, the wife of actor John Travolta, has passed away at the age of just 57.
Preston, over the duration of her career, featured in numerous films, including Twins, From Dusk Till Dawn, For Love of the Game, and The Cat in the Hat.
The role with which many Americans are probably most familiar, however, is that of Avery Bishop in the 1996 hit Jerry Maguire.
Cancer claims Preston
Preston’s death was confirmed Monday by her husband in a post on Instagram which said, “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
Travolta continued with an expression of gratitude to the medical personnel who had been caring for his wife throughout her illness, saying, “My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side.”
The grieving widower ended his post with a message for his fans, writing:
Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.
Travolta and Preston had been married for 29 years, having tied the knot back in 1991.
In today’s world that is in itself a bit of a miracle, especially when it comes to Hollywood couples.
Over the years, the pair collaborated professionally, including on the films Battlefield Earth and Gotti.
They also had three children together, though their eldest son, Jett Travolta, tragically died in 2009 at the age of 16 after suffering a seizure.
Many will surely be joining the Travolta family in mourning Preston’s untimely death over the coming weeks and months.
