Kentucky county GOP chair calls for McConnell’s resignation from Senate Republican leadership

It was just minutes after he voted to acquit Donald Trump in a Senate impeachment trial last Saturday that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) gave a stunning speech blaming the former president for a Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill and calling his actions a “disgraceful dereliction of duty.”

The remarks haven’t gone over well with many Republicans, however — and now, even some in McConnell’s home state are calling for his resignation from his role as Republicans’ leader in the Senate.

“Total disdain”

According to the Independent Journal Review (IJR), Don Thrasher, who chairs Nelson County, Kentucky’s GOP, tweeted out a statement Tuesday excoriating the senator and saying McConnell went against the “will” of his constituents.

“Given that the county party that I represent supports President Trump overwhelmingly and your complete and total disdain for the will of your constituents here in Nelson County I am formally demanding you resign your leadership position within our party’s caucus in the United States Senate,” Thrasher declared.

“The overwhelming number of Republicans in Nelson County are not on your side on this issue and I speak on their behalf,” he added. “I cannot speak for other county parties in Kentucky but if pressed for my thought I would say without reservation their constituents agree with my position on the matter.”

Trump wants McConnell gone, too

Of course, Thrasher is hardly alone in expressing dissatisfaction with McConnell. Also on Tuesday, former President Trump issued what ABC News described as a “rare statement” in which he promised to back a primary challenger to the Kentucky senator.

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm,” Trump said. “McConnell’s dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from Majority Leader to Minority Leader, and it will only get worse.”

According to ABC, Trump went on to call McConnell a “dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again.”

The day before, McConnell explained in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal that while there is “no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility” for the Capitol riot, “after intense study, I concluded that Article II, Section 4 limits impeachment and conviction to current officers.”

“I was as outraged as any member of Congress,” he said. “But senators take our own oaths. Our job wasn’t to find some way, any way, to inflict a punishment. The Senate’s first and foundational duty was to protect the Constitution.”

The minority leader still has six years before he’s up for re-election, meaning Kentuckians — and Republicans everywhere — have a long way to go.

    1. I totally agree. Padding his pension at the expense of the taxpayers. They all seem to do it. Ex: AG Barr. Mueller and anyone that is there more than 20 years.

      1. I agree Rose. They (both parties) make a fair salary but nothing to brag about in WashDC, yet somehow they all end up being millionaires. Funny, that.

  3. I have been a life long republican and can no long support them because, they are acting like a bunch of clowns Our country is lost if they don’t pull together. 75000,0000 people that are republicans are being shut out of the republican party by its own people. A divided country can not stand and neither can a divided party. We are at that cross roads now, not next day, not next week and not next month but now. So my dilemma is where do I go from here Not to a fascist democratic party, not the green party. So where?

    1. I’ve been thinking this, too. Thinking about going independent. Whatever happened to the tea party? There has to be something better. Also thinking about skipping voting; if it gets changed or tossed out, what difference does it make?

      1. It makes all the difference Sandy. Look at the lady that was just announced the winner the other week in NY. So slim a margin. Each vote really counted. Don’t lose hope.
        Pray… God will prevail.✝️🇺🇸

  4. Mitch McConnell is a disgrace to the republican party and to the American people. He should resign from the Senate and the republican party, but like most RHINO’s he probably won’t. The least the republicans in the Senate could do is strip him from the Minority Leadership role he no longer deserves.

  5. When did these clowns care about the Constitution? The swamp creatures are in it for profit and themselves. I will not give them a penny till they start getting rid of these turds.

  6. Mitch needs to be ditched. He is a republican that is really a democrat. He should be replaced in the senate A.S.A.P.

  7. I have never voted Mitch in a primary he is all about his China family but it’s not a choice if he wins the primary not anymore if he wins a primary I will never vote Mitch again he needs to go to China then be jailed in China

  8. McTurtle is 20yrs past his expiration date. he is rocking on 80 and been elected since 28yrs. Never had a real job out in America. But, seems to know what America thinks. He actually don’t care what the citizens think.

  9. None of the demonrats or rinos care about what the people think! It is all about THEM and their anti American agenda! They all need to be booted out!

  10. Hey GOP! You just let a big RINO weasel kill the Republican Party.
Your only chance to retain any part of the middle American Republicans that Trump brought into the Party, is to dump McConnell now as the Minority leader or you won’t have enough votes in the future to win Dogcatcher!

  11. Can’t Kentucky recall him? The least the Republican Senators can do is vote in another leader of the party. The leader is supposed to represent the views of the majority.

  12. No he has been there way too long, saw a picture yesterday in my mailbox of him greeting pelosi by “bumping” elbows with her……..Glad to see he will no longer be a leader…..

  13. Any member of the Senate or House with business ties to a foreign Country should be censored or expelled.Anyone with the same agenda appointed by Biden should also be rejected.America First🙏✌️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  14. The truth be known, Paul Ryan who was elected Majority leader of the House of Representatives and Mitch McConnell who was elected Majority leader of Congress while Trump was elected POTUS in 2016 was a loosing situation for Trump’s Administration. Even in 2015 these two men were openly at odds with Trumps agenda, and all one has to look at is “what congress accomplished in the first two years of his administration!” Absolutely nothing Ryan was for open boarder, actually he was part of the established swamp! McConnell on the other hand was more elusive, more divisive as he boarded between some of the Trumps initiatives as well as being part of the establishment swamp rats.

The major agreement McConnell and Trump had was appointing Federal Judges which was what was needed. But the truth of the matter is Ryan was fully against Trump while McConnell played politics, and that is what opened the door for what is now happening to this country!

Pelosi’s father was a Communist sympathizer, and so is she, there is no question in my mind she is the most dangerous person to this country. She is power hungry, vindictive, she lies, and a self-centered Communist.

What did she know prior to the Jan 6th riots?, why has she built an outrageous fence around the Government properties in WDC? If she thinks the wall Trump tried to build across our southern boarder is bad for our image, what does she think her cage around the Capital looks like?

It would be one thing if her razor barrier would keep the swamp rats under control it would be one thing, but her real reasoning is keeping her safe from any responses to what she is doing to our FREEDOMS. If she feels she need protection, then she should look at what she is doing that is creating her fears. Her so-called by partisan investigation into what happened to create the riot of Jan 6th, her attitude of pushing everything down the peoples throats because she knows what is needed more so than the people.

There is no question in my mind that millions of people in this country have been brainwashed to believe the Government know better, and those supposedly representing the people know more the people do. But the fact of the matter is the people will eventually wake up and really take their country back.

Biden had better read the writing on the wall and start thinking for a “CHANGE”, the Media, High Tech and business who are allowing “Cancel Culture” had better start standing up for our Freedoms, or they will all go down, no one is too big to fall. All it will take is a real “Peaceful Protest” not a mostly peaceful protest. No riots, no damage to anyone or properties, just True Americas standing up and removing them from office.

    1. We will not have a Republican peaceful protest because BLM and Antifa will infiltrate it with violence an blame it on republicans an Trump.

  15. McConnell, showed us what he is all about. Now it is our turn, & he will hear, from the American people, come election time & before. You are with us, or against us, no more playing games, talking out of both sides of your mouth, at the same time. The days of us not seeing, & not hearing, are gone, we are awake, & watching, & listening. God Bless America, & God Bless All Americans.

  16. Please let’s recall tom rice in South Carolina. He has done betrayed his voters I wish I could start the paperwork

  17. I saw in previous articles that McConnell felt as though that he helped “preserve” the United States Constitution when he commented that President Trump was “guilty” of his last impeachment charge. He should be removed from his position because he cannot understand that he is dealing with a group of communists that have no respect at all for the Constitution, and will do everything they can to remove the freedoms of the American people!

  18. China is influencing McConnell through his wife, who had a position in the Trump administration. Who knows what information she was privy to.

  19. Ryan was the reason we lost the house to the demorats when he was speaker of the do nothing house. He had the power to get things done for the people, but no he was part of the swamp. Just like all of the Rinos in the house and senate today.

  20. There are republicans working undercover for the swamp, this is why Biden/Harris is illegally in the White House, must start monitoring them and, catch the corrupted ones and remove them, out the door, let them go flip hamburgers somewhere far away from D.C..

  21. McConnell is corrupt and compromised by the Chinese Communist Party. His wife, her family and McConnell are in business with the CCP with a shipping business and the party calls the shots and McConnell does what they say or they lose business. That is why he said in his speech at end that he could still have to pay through the outside courts. The Kentucky RNC should be getting a recall petition going to get all necessary votes to have a special election to remove him or get on ballot in 2022. We cannot afford to have him in the senate another six years.

  22. Kentucky show mitch the road❗Do not put up with a rino❗Time to go, mitchie. You showed your party where your beliefs lie, probaly from the beginning of your career in politics. 🎯
