Authorities in Texas this week released shocking details of alleged child abuse committed by a San Antonio woman.
According to the Washington Examiner, 37-year-old Priscilla Ann Salais was arrested on charges of child endangerment and appeared in court on Tuesday.
“I just want them to come home already”
Another young victim, a 2-year-old boy, was found confined and “heavily soiled” in a playpen “like a cage,” McManus said. The chief went on to condemn the “unforgivable” acts that Salais is alleged to have committed.
As an arrest affidavit explained, she was supposed to be serving as a guardian to both children during a Child Protective Services investigation of possible abuse. A clearly distraught mother offered a message to her children, explaining that she trusted Salais, who is her stepmother, to care for the siblings.
“Tell them that I’m sorry,” she said. “I’m sorry that it got this far and that I should never have trusted anybody with them. And that I just want them to come home already.”
Reports indicated that both children have been placed in foster care.
“That’s the kind of person she is”
For her part, Salais has reportedly denied all allegations of wrongdoing, advising reporters to “get their facts straight” before reporting on the case.
Her father came to her defense, asserting: “The kids she’s taken into her home out of the kindness of her heart is because that’s the kind of person she is. Now this sensationalized version that’s being portrayed on her is totally inaccurate.”
As of the available reports, it remained unclear how long the children had been in her care prior to their discovery by the police.
Authorities responded to the scene after receiving an emergency call from a woman advising that her grandchildren were locked in a bedroom.
Firefighters were able to gain access to the room, where they reportedly found the children injured and confined to abhorrent living conditions.
