Those working along the U.S.–Mexico border are fed up with the Biden administration’s lax immigration enforcement policies.
Multiple leaked recordings obtained by Breitbart reportedly show heated exchanges that took place in recent days between U.S. border agents and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials including Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz.
“That’s the reality”
The first recording that has been released, which includes audio only, was reportedly taken from a meeting that took place in Yuma, Arizona. There, Sec. Mayorkas was forced to address the fact that President Joe Biden’s immigration policies are making it nearly impossible for agents to do their jobs.
“I know the policies of this administration are not particularly popular with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but that’s the reality and let’s see what we can do within that framework,” Mayorkas said, according to Breitbart.
Townhall adds in a report of its own:
[One] agent pressed Mayorkas on how DHS can reconcile saying border security is the main mission for Border Patrol, yet agents are unable to patrol the border due to the policies the Biden administration has in place.
“You can turn your back on me”
In response, Mayorkas said he appreciated the agent’s “candor,” according to Townhall, and explained that he “is working to ensure agents have the personnel, funding, and equipment they need to do their job.”
But the agent quickly pointed out that this is the same speech they’ve been hearing for some time. Ultimately, the agent ended up turning his back on Mayorkas, reports said.
“Let me just say, you can turn your back on me but I’ll never turn my back on you,” Mayorkas quipped. At that point, the agent reportedly said that Mayorkas had turned his back on them first.
“I get it”
Yet another leaked recording, this time in video form, came from a meeting in Laredo, Texas, where border agents raised concerns about suffering morale that they blamed on Biden’s border policies.
“I get it, you come to work, you’re frustrated,” Ortiz said after agents brought up their concerns to Mayorkas. “You’re upset because you didn’t get the desired outcome that you want. Doesn’t mean you give up.” The agent asking the question responded, “I’m not.”
Ortiz then told the agents that they signed up to do what they’re ordered to do, prompting one agent to note that his job is “to defend the Constitution.” Another pointed out that it’s hard to do when “you keep releasing criminal aliens into the country.”
