The Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas met with border leaders in Texas this week, with audio leaked from the meeting revealing the border is the worst it has been in 20 years.
“The numbers are not where they need to be. I agree with that,” Mayorkas said. “That’s been the way it is for about 20, 25 years,” he added, referring to the backlog of cases in the leaked audio.
NEW: Updated DHS numbers show the Biden administration enrolled less than 300 migrants in MPP (Remain in Mexico) in December.

“It’s worse now”
“The job has not gotten any easier over the last few months and it was very, very difficult throughout 2021,” Mayorkas said.
“I know apprehending families and kids is not what you signed up to do. And now we got a composition that is changing even more with Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, and the like, it just gets more difficult.
“I know the policies of this administration are not particularly popular with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but that’s the reality and let’s see what we can do within that framework,” he continued.

Julio Rosas, the reporter who revealed the audio, shared an update following the breaking news.
“I’ve heard from multiple Border Patrol agents across different sectors that they and others in the agency are really happy the audio got leaked. They want people to know they are fed up and tired of the self-inflicted border crisis,” he tweeted.

More than two million illegal immigrants crossed the southern border of the country in 2021.
The new information reveals even the top leaders in the Biden administration realize the seriousness of the border crisis.
