According to liberal comedian Bill Maher, Republicans will win the midterm elections, and the Democrats only have themselves to blame.
The Washington Examiner reports that Maher suggested as much during a recent appearance on fellow comedian Bill Burr’s podcast, Thursday Afternoon Monday Morning.
“Woke culture” a big problem
During his appearance, Maher did something that he has been doing more and more of lately, namely, criticizing his own Democratic party – or at least certain factions of his own party.
“I am very much a critique — a critic of what goes on on the fringe of the Left,” Maher said.
“I mean, woke culture has just — that’s one reason why the Republicans are gonna do so well in this election,” Maher continued, explaining, “because the Left has gone super crazy with lots of s*** that the average American just never voted for, doesn’t recognize in this country, doesn’t want.”
What Maher says here, of course, is correct.
But, don’t be fooled into thinking that Maher is moving to the political right – he’s not. He just doesn’t agree with some aspects of the new far left.
Maher, again, targets Trump
In the remainder of the segment, Burr asked Maher to identify things the average American should know about the American government heading into the midterm elections.
Maher responded, “the system of government we have is based on checks and balances,” adding, “that’s important because we’re about to lose really the most fundamental part of being an American.”
Maher then used this as a basis to launch an attack on former President Donald Trump and the many pro-Trump candidates who are favored to win seats across the country in the midterm elections. Maher, here, harped on the fact that Trump and many of his supporters still question the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
“There is an election in a couple of days, and we are going to elect about 300 people into Congress who don’t believe in democracy, who don’t believe that the person who gets the most votes wins,” Maher claimed. “They don’t care about that.”
As stated, Maher is certainly not moving to the political right. But, at least more and more he has shown a willingness to highlight some of the left’s many, many problems.
