Legal group seeks to disbar Ted Cruz for helping Trump’s 2020 election lawsuits

Ever since the January 6th Capitol protest, it has become increasingly common to hear leftists fantasize about throwing Republicans in prison for “insurrection.”

The Democratic party’s evolution into a party of unabashed Stalinists continues, with a new legal effort underway to disbar Republican Ted Cruz (Tx.) for helping President Trump challenge the 2020 election results.

Leftist authoritarians target Cruz

The effort is being led by Election 65, a liberal legal group that took its name from the 65 lawsuits that Trump filed in swing states challenging the election results.

In an ethics complaint with the State Bar of Texas, Election 65 accuses Cruz of intentionally lying about there being fraud in the election. Echoing a well-worn liberal talking point, the group cites the dismissal of Trump’s cases by numerous courts as the last word on whether fraud influence the outcome.

“Mr. Cruz knew that the allegations he was echoing had already been reviewed and rejected by courts,” the complaint says. “And he knew that claims of voter fraud or the election being stolen were false.”

In their complaint, the group asks that Cruz be held “accountable” for assisting Trump with an election lawsuit in Pennsylvania that went to the Supreme Court. One of the group’s advisers, Paul Rosenzweig, said Cruz was involved in “criminal conduct.”

Cruz fired back at Election 65, calling it a “far-left dark money smear machine run by a who’s who of shameless Democrat hacks” and “not a credible organization,” adding their complaint “won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on.”

Democrats declare it a crime to question the 2020 election

Election 65 says their goal is to “hold accountable the lawyers who raise fraudulent claims to overturn legitimate elections results.” It’s unclear when, if ever, Election 65 plans to take action against Michael Sussmann, the former Clinton campaign lawyer who helped spread the baseless “Russian collusion” hoax that Democrats used to discredit Trump’s 2016 victory. One gets the sense they’re not interested.

Trump’s friend and lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has already been disbarred in New York for promoting the so-called “big lie” that the 2020 election was stolen.

Since when is it a crime to challenge election results? Democrats spent the entirety of the Trump presidency litigating the 2016 election, for crying out loud.

Let’s just call this what it is: Democrat authoritarians are trying to make it a crime to oppose them, to doubt the fairness of a presidential election that was conducted under extraordinarily questionable, likely illegal circumstances — including the use of mass censorship to support one candidate.

Without a hint of self-awareness, they’re doing all this in the name of “democracy.”
