A friend of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas just exposed the fact that the political left is trying to use Thomas’s wife, conservative advocate Virginia Thomas, to target her husband, Fox News reports.
This follows a recent report from the Washington Post that shows that Virginia Thomas asked Arizona lawmakers to ensure that “a clean slate of electors is chosen” following the 2020 presidential election.
Virginia Thomas made the request in an email that she sent to Russell Bowers, the Republican Speaker of Arizona’s House of Representatives, and Shawnna Bolick, the Republican Arizona state representative.
The Post’s report indicates, however, that Virginia Thomas used a pre-written email. The email read, “Article II of the United States Constitution gives you an awesome responsibility: to choose our state’s Electors. [P]lease take action to ensure that a clean slate of Electors is chosen.”
Fox News quotes “a source close to the Thomas family” as calling the Post’s report “pathetic.”
“With all that’s going on in the world, it’s pathetic that the Post and others are focused on this non-story,” the family friend said. “Ginni signed a pre-written form letter, like thousands of others.”
The source went on to argue that the Post is trying to use Virginia Thomas to attack Justice Thomas, saying, “but the corporate press hates Justice Thomas, especially after the leak of the draft Dobbs opinion, and is trashing his wife to attack the Justice.”
The referred-to opinion is the one in which the justices are expected to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The truth of the matter is that, unfortunately, this is nothing new. The political left has been using Virginia Thomas’s conservative advocacy to attack Justice Thomas for decades now. They argue that Justice Thomas can’t impartially do his job because of his wife’s conservative advocacy.
The Post, in recent months, released another report revealing text messages exchanged between Virginia Thomas and then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows following the 2020 presidential election. In those messages, Virginia Thomas urges Meadows to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The left has used this report to argue that Thomas ought to resign or at least recuse himself from cases having to do with the 2020 presidential election and/or the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests.
The Thomas’s have mostly ignored these attacks from the press. In the past, they have maintained that they don’t get involved in each other’s work.
