Outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), clinging on to her hatred of former President Donald Trump, continues to try to undermine Republicans.
Breitbart News reports that Cheney recently vowed to “do everything [that she] can” to ensure that pro-Trump Republican Kari Lake does not become the next governor of Arizona.
A bitter Cheney speaks
Cheney made the vow during a recent appearance at the Texas Tribune’s 2022 festival. There, she spoke with Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith.
Smith, at one point, asked Cheney whether, given her opposition to Trump and Lake, she is going to campaign for Lake’s Democratic opponent, Katie Hobbs. Cheney replied in the affirmative.
“I am going to do everything I can to make sure Kari Lake is not elected,” Cheney said.
Then, Smith took things a step further by asking Cheney if, to stop Trump and pro-Trump candidates like Lake, she would be willing to campaign for the Democrats.
Cheney simply replied, “Yes.”
“Best gift . . . ever”
Lake responded to Cheney’s interview during an appearance on Fox News Channel Sunday morning. There, Lake argued that Cheney’s vow to campaign against her is likely a “gift.”
“That might be the biggest, best gift I’ve ever received,” Lake said. “I mean, the people of Wyoming can’t stand her. I’m pretty much sure that the people of Arizona don’t like Liz Cheney.”
It is difficult to believe that the Wyoming-based Cheney, at this point, can convince Republican voters in Arizona to vote against Lake. Cheney, after all, just lost the Wyoming Republican primary to Harriet Hageman – a pro-Trump candidate – by a massive margin of over 40 percentage points. It’s clear that Cheney’s pull as part of the Republican Party, by now, has virtually disappeared.
Lake, during her Fox appearance, also suggested that Cheney ought to “change her voter registration.” This is something that, no doubt, many Republicans across America would like to see. And, the good news is that there’s yet hope.
At the Texas Tribune Festival, Cheney said that, if former President Trump is the Republican presidential nominee for 2024, she “won’t be a Republican.” Add this to the ever-growing list of reasons to vote for Trump should he choose to run for the presidency in 2024.
